Cody Latimer’s side of the story gives actions context

Cody Latimer is set to face charges for a shooting incident that occurred early on Saturday morning in Colorado. But his side of the story is now being told.

Cody Latimer is set to appear in court on July 24, 2020, on multiple felony charges from an incident that occurred late Friday night into early Saturday morning in Colorado. The Washington Redskins receiver was charged with second-degree assault, menacing, illegal discharge of a firearm, prohibited use of a weapon, and reckless endangerment.

During the incident, Latimer allegedly got into a dispute with a guest at a poker game that he was attending. From there, he threatened a few people with a gun in allegations that certainly are disturbing.

But now, the situation has taken a darker turn as Latimer’s side of the story has been made clear, as detailed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

"At the hearing, Latimer’s attorney, Harvey Steinberg, told the court that he has been contacted by law enforcement concerning an investigation of a sexual assault of Latimer’s 4-year-old son that was allegedly perpetrated by one of the individuals at that poker game."

And also, per Schefter:

"Steinberg told the court that the allegations concerning the shooting incident occurred at about the same time and location as the alleged sexual assault."

So, the shooting incident that Latimer got into was with somebody who allegedly abused his son. If that’s the case, Latimer’s side of the story certainly changes things.

There isn’t much to be said about this that everyone isn’t already thinking. These allegations are horrible and disgusting. We’ll see in time what comes of this investigation, but it certainly adds context to Latimer’s actions.

As the days go on, more information about this incident will likely come available. For the time being, the Redskins will be patiently waiting and gathering information before making any decisions about Latimer’s future with the team. They’ve handled things well so far and were right not to be too reactionary after Latimer was first arrested.
