Washington Redskins wide receiver and 2020 free agent acquisition Cody Latimer has reportedly been arrested.

Earlier this week, former Washington Redskins cornerback Quinton Dunbar was sought out for arrest on armed robbery charges. Now, there is unfortunately more news concerning a different arrest, this time regarding newly-acquired wide receiver Cody Latimer.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Latimer was arrested early this morning. Among the charges listed in Latimer’s case are second-degree assault, menacing, illegal discharge of a firearm, prohibited use of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. Yates also said that Latimer is currently being held on a $25,000 bond. Yates received the information from the Douglas County sheriff, out of Colorado.

Per ESPN’s John Keim, the Redskins released a short statement regarding Latimer’s situation, which reads as follows: “We are aware of the situation and have informed the NFL League Office. We will continue to gather more information and have no further comment at this time.”

Latimer has reportedly been released from custody after posting bond.

It’s unclear what moves might stem from this altercation, as more information needs to be gathered. The fallout will of course be under intense scrutiny, as Ron Rivera has made a point out of prioritizing culture in his first months on the job. Latimer has received high marks for his character in past locations.

Latimer, 27, was signed by the Redskins in free agency this offseason, to a one-year deal worth approximately $1,047,500. Latimer most recently played for the New York Giants, logging 24 catches, 300 yards, and two touchdowns in 15 games in 2019. He was originally drafted by the Denver Broncos in the second round in 2014, where he would go on to amass 35 catches for 445 yards and three scores over four seasons.

Latimer was expected to be the most senior member of the Redskins receiving core, and a valued mentor for the younger pass catchers in the room. Now, however, his future is cloudy. Stick with us, as we’ll have more updates on the situation.
