The middle position in D.C. has been mediocre since the departure of London Fletcher back in 2013. It’s time to beef that group up immediately.

Entering the 2020-2021 NFL season, the Washington Redskins have completely rebuilt their organization from top to bottom. One of their key additions was bringing in head coach Ron Rivera and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio to finally fix what’s been a dreadful Redskins defense for the past decade.

A reason why this defense has been putrid for so long is the absence of a difference-maker at arguably the most important position on that side of the ball. I’m talking about the quarterback of the defense, the middle linebacker spot.

While the current roster doesn’t have any solid difference makers at the middle linebacker position, there’s one call the Redskins could and should make to fix that during the 2020 offseason.

That call should be to Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. The Redskins should make a call to inquire about the services of New England Patriots linebacker Dont’a Hightower.

Your initial thoughts may be that you think I am crazy for even bringing this up. But when you break down the entire situation, you may change your tune. There’s much more than what meets the eye here, but make no mistake about it: Dont’a Hightower would be a great fit as a Redskin for the next couple of seasons.

No, the biggest asset Dont’a brings isn’t the fact that he went to college at Alabama; He’s a great player and his exceptional level of play doesn’t seem set to slow down anytime soon.
