Best new addition: EDGE Chase Young

The Redskins didn’t necessarily need another pass rusher on the defensive line, but they got one when they selected Chase Young with the No. 2 overall pick.

And oh boy, could their line be great with him on it.

Young was absolutely dominant during his college career at Ohio State and graded out as the best player in the 2020 NFL Draft class. He has excellent athletic ability and a plethora of pass-rushing moves that afford him the opportunity to get to the quarterback in a variety of different ways. Whether it’s speed, strength, quick hands, or just excellent technique, Young will make a difference for Washington.

More from Riggo's Rag

Young was able to rack up 16.5 sacks during his final collegiate season despite facing a lot of double teams. And at times, teams would even try to send three guys his way to try to slow him down. That’s how good he was.

At the next level, Young figures to be a long-term replacement for Ryan Kerrigan and a complement to Montez Sweat. Short-term, he adds yet another great pass rusher to the rotation for the ‘Skins and should help to make their line one of the league’s best. He could be a double-digit sack artist in the NFL and while he may not reach that plateau as a rookie, depending on the rotation, his talent level is through the roof.

It’s easy to get hyped up about Young. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to being on the field against NFL players, but Needless to say, he has quite a lot of talent. He should get ample opportunities to prove himself as a rookie and could create sack opportunities for other members of the stellar Redskins defensive line.
