The Washington Redskins are going to be playing the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season, according to a report.

The 2020 NFL schedule will be released officially on Thursday night. But ahead of the event, leaks are starting to come out about the schedule, as usual.

And it looks like the Redskins are going to be facing a very familiar foe in Week 1.

According to NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay, the Redskins will be playing host to the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2020 season opener.

Remarkably, this will be the third time in the past four years that the Eagles and Redskins have played in Week 1. The Redskins played host to the Eagles in a 30-17 loss to open the 2017 season and last year, the Eagles were defeated in a closely-contested 32-27 game in Philadelphia.

The Eagles will be a tough opponent for the Redskins to face in the season opener. They have won the NFC East two of the past three seasons and won Super Bowl 52 under Doug Pederson. The only thing that has held them back in recent seasons has been injuries, but obviously, those won’t be too much of a problem in Week 1 barring any holdover issues from the preseason.

Though the Eagles will be tough competition, Dwayne Haskins did find some success against them last year. He had one of his best games, throwing for 261 yards and two touchdowns while completing 19 of 28 passes. He did lose a fumble, but that was on the very last play of the game when the Redskins were in desperation mode near midfield.

Perhaps Haskins solid performance last year will give him some confidence, even though the weakest part of the Eagles’ defense, the secondary, was upgraded big-time with the addition of Darius Slay via trade.

Redskins fans may have wanted to see a non-NFC East opponent in Week 1, but in a rebuilding year, this will be a good chance for the ‘Skins to ride the energy of Ron Rivera‘s first home game with the team to try to upset the Eagles. So long as they play hard for Rivera, this should be an entertaining clash. And hopefully, the Redskins will be able to snap their six-game losing streak to the Eagles.
