The Washington Redskins landed a playmaker in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Here’s an in-depth look at what Antonio Gibson can provide the team.

Running back was not a position that many expected the Redskins to add much talent at this offseason. Yet the team elected to spend resources at the position.

And one of the most significant resources used was the all-important 66th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Redskins elected to select Antonio Gibson from Memphis with the early third-round pick. Given that the team was without a second-round pick due to the Montez Sweat trade, it was a bit of a surprise that they waited on an offensive tackle and instead went for Gibson.

But when looking at the type of player that Gibson is, it makes sense that they would target him. In fact, head coach Ron Rivera said it was fair to compare the hybrid back and receiver to Christian McCaffrey, one of the NFL’s top running backs who Rivera coached during his time with the Carolina Panthers, per ESPN.

"“No, that’s fair. He’s a little bit bigger than Christian, but he’s got a skill set like Christian. This is a very versatile, young football player that we really think is going to be a guy that can get on the field for us early and contribute.”"

That’s some seriously high praise. And does it carry merit? We explore that question with an in-depth scouting report on Gibson and his fit with the Redskins.

Let’s dive in.
