No. 2 – Redskins QB Dwayne Haskins

It was never more than a draft pundit headline, but with the No. 2 overall pick, the Redskins did have a chance to restart at quarterback, if they had the desire to. Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert were both potential replacements for Dwayne Haskins, but when it was time to select, Washington stood pat and selected Chase Young, effectively retaining Haskins as their signal caller.

Rivera later said after the draft that he felt he’d seen enough from Haskins to prevent a discussion on Tagovailoa from even taking place. Haskins won’t be handed the job, of course; Rivera brought in Kyle Allen to provide starting experience and competition. But Haskins has the inside track, and he has the confidence of the staff behind him. Now, words and actions alike align with that notion.

Haskins’ stat line from 2019 isn’t impressive by itself, but the rookie visibly grew over the course of the season and managed to withstand the adversity he faced early on. Now, he has a staff that’s behind him, and with that confidence, he has a chance to lock down the quarterback position long-term in 2020.
