Evaluating the Redskins draft picks: Offensive tackle Saahdiq Charles
The Washington Redskins added eight players to their roster via the 2020 NFL Draft. Today, we take a look at offensive tackle Saahdiq Charles and what the fourth-round pick could offer the team.
Heading into the 2020 NFL Draft, the left tackle position was one that the Washington Redskins desperately needed help at. Trent Williams held out and missed the entirety of the 2019 NFL season. And after confirming this offseason that he wasn’t going to return to play for the team, he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers.
As a result of that move, the Redskins had little at the tackle position. Luckily for them, the 2020 NFL Draft was loaded at tackle and the squad was able to target a potential replacement with one of their mid-round picks. That afforded them the opportunity to add Chase Young to the fold and target a versatile offensive weapon, Antonio Gibson, with the 66th overall pick.
With the second pick on Day 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Redskins landed Saahdiq Charles from LSU. Charles, a four-year starter for the Tigers, has plenty of experience on the left side of the line and was a key part of the blocking unit during LSU’s run to the 2019 National Championship. He only started playing on the offensive line during his senior year of high school after being moved there from the defensive line. But the move certainly paid off.
So, what does Charles have to offer the Redskins? And what can he stand to improve? We take a look at the fourth-round pick in an in-depth scouting report and examine just how well he’ll fit in with Washington.
Without further ado, let’s kick this thing off.
