Last year, the Washington Redskins defense featured multiple players that showed they were capable of elevating their play to the next level. Could some of these players’ breakout seasons come next year in Washington?

The last article I wrote featured the three top offensive players that could see a breakout season next year for the Washington Redskins. Aside from the offensive side of the ball, there are also factors that point to multiple players on the defensive side of the ball putting together excellent seasons next year.

Last year, the Redskins defense, coached by Greg Manusky, finished ranked in the bottom 10 in points per game and yards per game. Even in this not-so-great year for the defense, some players showed their potential and that they could take their game to the next level.

In comes new defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio. Del Rio, who is a former head coach and defensive coordinator, brings an impressive resume to Washington that gives the defense hope to succeed next season. In his four years as a defensive coordinator, Del Rio has ranked top 5 in yards per game and points per game allowed in two out of the four years.

If Del Rio and the rest of the defensive coaching staff can bring the same mentality and leadership to Washington that Del Rio coached with in previous years, multiple players on the defensive side of the ball will put together great seasons next year. These next three players are the ones I believe will take their game to the next level and have very good seasons.
