The Washington Redskins will soon be going through their first draft with Ron Rivera as the head coach. Here’s a look at how he fared in the first round of the draft during his nine years with the Carolina Panthers.

The 2020 NFL Draft is officially under a week away. And as the draft day draws nearer, the excitement surrounding what the Redskins could land in the draft will start to pick up even more.

Throughout the past few seasons, the Redskins have put together some nice draft classes. They have added plenty of talent in the first round — especially on defensive line in recent years with Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, and Montez Sweat — and they will likely look to keep that trend going in 2020.

That said, this year will be the first time that the team goes through the draft process with Ron Rivera in the fold. The team’s new head coach is working closely with Kyle Smith and will have an influence on the picks as the duo looks to start this Redskins rebuild the right way.

The interesting thing about Rivera is that he’s been a head coach since 2011 and helped run nine drafts during his time with the Carolina Panthers. While Dave Gettleman and Marty Hurney were also responsible for the decisions made during that time, Rivera was the one constant. And his draft history is fairly solid.

Here’s a look at Rivera’s overall first-round draft history from his nine-year stint with the Carolina Panthers.
