Week 16: Away vs. Minnesota Vikings (8-6)

After earning their second consecutive win, the Redskins once again hit the road and traveled to Minnesota to face off against the Vikings. The Vikings were red hot, having won five straight, and were in a prime position for a wild card spot; if they won, they were in, as the Giants had secured the other spot earlier. Washington still had some work to do, but winning this game would mean they just had Dallas next week to get in.

The Redskins would jump out to a 2-0 lead behind an early safety. On the ensuing drive, Todd Collins continued his excellent play, connecting with Chris Cooley for a 33-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 9-0. After a Tarvaris Jackson interception, Collins hit Santana Moss for a 32-yard touchdown on the second play of the drive to put Washington up 16-0.

After a Minnesota punt, Collins would lead the Redskins on one more scoring drive before the half. With under a minute left in the first half, Clinton Portis took a toss going to the right, which he then threw to a wide-open Santana Moss for another Redskins touchdown. Washington would head into the half with a commanding 22-0 lead.

A Shaun Suisham field goal pushed the lead to 25-0 halfway through the third quarter, before a Tarvaris Jackson touchdown pass got Minnesota on the board. A Jackson six-yard rushing touchdown in the early in the fourth quarter made it 25-14 with Minnesota starting to get some momentum.

Following the Vikings touchdown, Collins would lead the Redskins on a nine-play, 75-yard drive capped off by a 13-yard rushing touchdown by Portis. Jackson would add one more rushing touchdown, but the ‘Skins would win by a final score of 32-21, as they now controlled their own destiny as they headed home to face Dallas in Week 17.
