. Offensive Tackle. Seattle Seahawks. Josh Jones. 27. player. 36

Ah, the Seahawks. What a fun team to try to mock for. They’ve had only a handful of first-round picks over the course of the past decade — they’ve made some trades to upgrade their team at times using their top selections — but needless to say, they’re a tough team to predict.

Don’t believe me? Just check out their past five first-round selections.

  • 2019: EDGE L.J. Collier, TCU
  • 2018: RB Rashaad Penny, San Diego State
  • 2016: OT Germain Ifedi, Texas A&M
  • 2012: DE/LB Bruce Irvin, West Virginia
  • 2011: OL James Carpenter, Alabama

Of those picks, only Ifedi was considered to be a likely first-round pick. So, we’ve got our work cut out for us trying to figure out the direction they’ll go in.

That said, the team has a hole at right tackle. They let Ifedi walk in free agency after he struggled with penalties during his time as a starter in Seattle. The team replaced him with another former Texas A&M first-round tackle, Cedric Ogbuehi, and Brandon Shell. Unfortunately, Ogbuehi has been a bust while Shell was signed to a two-year deal worth $11 million presumably to be a swing tackle.

Luckily for the Seahawks, one of the better players still remaining is Josh Jones. The Houston tackle has great size (6-foot-5, 319 pounds), long arms, and showed off decent athletic ability at the combine. He can stand to add more weight and strength at the next level to avoid getting bullied by stronger players and if he does that, his length will afford him a chance to be a very good tackle.

The Seahawks could also consider an athletic pass rusher like Yetur Gross-Matos here. But given the choice between Jones and Gross-Matos, I think they would lean Jones because he fills a more pressing need, especially if Seattle can bring back Jadeveon Clowney, who is still a free agent.
