. Running Back. Miami Dolphins. D'Andre Swift. 26. player. 59

Pick No. 3 for the Dolphins, offensive player No. 3. After upgrading the quarterback and the blocking with the first two picks, Miami needs to find a true three-down running back for their offense.

The team signed Jordan Howard in free agency. Howard looked good last season with the Eagles, but he couldn’t stay healthy. He should have a chance to factor into the rotation in Miami, but trusting him as the top back seems like a mistake.

Elsewhere on the roster, the ‘Fins don’t have much. Patrick Laird and former Redskins back Samaje Perine were their top backs at the end of last season. The return of Kalen Ballage and Myles Gaskin gives them better depth, but neither should be trusted as anything more than depth.

D’Andre Swift is the best running back in this class, and he could be the next star to come out of the Georgia program. For the past two seasons, Swift has been Georgia’s lead back and in 2019, he logged 1,434 scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns for the team. He has a career average of 6.6 yards per carry and though he’s 5-foot-8, he tips the scales at 212 pounds, giving him nice power and making it likely that he’ll hold up as a three-down back.

Swift’s dual-threat ability as a runner and a receiver could make him similar to Alvin Kamara, another former SEC running back who has found success with the Saints. So long as Swift stays healthy and the Dolphins continue upgrading their offensive line, he should have a chance to help the Dolphins move the ball and take some pressure off Herbert at quarterback.
