Philadelphia Eagles. Denzel Mims. 21. player. 54. . Wide Receiver

The Eagles may be a bit disappointed to miss out on Jefferson by one pick, but they shouldn’t be. Denzel Mims is another very good option and he could become the No. 1 receiver that the Eagles and Carson Wentz need to get going on offense.

At Baylor, Mims was a three-year star for the Bears and was instrumental in the success of their offense. Last season, he made 66 catches for 1,020 yards and grabbed 12 touchdowns as Charlie Brewer’s top target. And at the NFL level, Mims could blossom into an even bigger star.

Mims is a great athlete and his ability was on display at the combine. He clocked a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash and his 3-cone drill came in at 6.66 seconds, among the fastest times for receivers there. He also thrived in the on-field drills and showed off his length, high-pointing ability, and contested catch prowess.

For the next level, Mims will use his rare frame and athleticism to challenge defensive backs for contested catches and his great footwork near the sideline should afford him an opportunity to make some circus catches. He’ll need to work on his route-running at the next level, but given his testing numbers, he should be able to improve in that area.

Mims has the speed. He has the size. He has the natural athletic ability needed to make great catches. He should only get better in the NFL and he looks like an ideal partner for Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson. He can be a complete, all-around player while Jeffery focuses on being a possession receiver and Jackson serves as the Eagles’ deep threat.

And that will certainly be better than the skeleton corps that the Eagles trotted out at the position amid their injury woes last season.
