50. . Edge Rusher. Detroit Lions. Chase Young. 3. player

Jacob: Personally, I would take Chase Young at the No. 2 spot in this draft and not look back if I’m the Redskins. He’s the best defensive player in this draft and should be a double-digit sack artist at the next level.

Alas, with the ‘Skins electing to trade down, Young will fall into the lap of the Lions. And the defensive-minded Matt Patricia will be ecstatic to land a player of his caliber.

Young was, simply put, dominant in his two years as a primary starter at Ohio State. He put together a terrific final season with the team in which he totaled a whopping 16.5 sacks. He has really good athletic ability, natural movement skills, and has developed a number of quality pass-rushing moves that should benefit him at the next level.

For the Lions, Young would be a massive upgrade on the edge across from Trey Flowers. Flowers has posted at least 6.5 sacks in four straight seasons but getting him a partner like Young, which he has never had during his career, would be a massive boost for him. Opposing coordinators would only be able to key in on one of them which will make it hard to contain the pass rushing pressure. This is especially true when considering that the Lions added Jamie Collins in free agency as well.

Young is a well-rounded player that should be a well-rounded starter at the NFL level. Nothing is ever certain in the draft, but Young is the closest thing to a safe prospect that this draft has.
