Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Justin Herbert. 14. player. 48. . Quarterback

Ian: Whoever the fourth quarterback ends up being (If I had to bet money on it, I would name Jordan Love as that player, but this is just to show that anything is possible), they likely won’t last past 23. That’s the ultimate floor, as the Patriots pick at that point, and would be hard-pressed to pass up that kind of value for a signal caller.

That said, there are some stops along the way where a quarterback could be taken, and this is one of them. For the Buccaneers, this decision was made even easier by the fact that all of the top four offensive tackles in the 2020 NFL Draft are off the board. Getting a tackle will be an important exercise for the Buccaneers in the later rounds, but right here, Justin Herbert is the right pick.

Herbert is a player who possesses a ton of upside. His tape is littered with plays where he uses his athleticism and escapability to make plays, and where he uses his rocket arm to push the ball downfield past defenders. His arm strength inevitably leads to some negative variances in his on-tape production, but there’s definite upside there, and a clear fit in Bruce Arians’ offense.

Herbert has traits that an Arians offense will be able to maximize, and sitting a year behind Tom Brady could do wonders for Herbert’s development. Herbert has everything he needs to succeed in the NFL, but a little more time in his tool box might ensure that he does.
