3. Who is going to be the quarterback of the future in Washington?

The Redskins seem to be set on Dwayne Haskins as their starting quarterback for this season. Looking at last season though, one could imagine that Haskins has a long way to go this offseason before winning the starting role officially.

Last season, multiple people suggested Haskins struggled to grasp the new playbook he needed to learn. This is not a great look for a quarterback that has to learn his second playbook in as many years. Also, with training activities likely being cancelled this offseason due to the global pandemic, players will not have as much time to learn their playbooks this season, so familiarity will play a factor.

Just last week, the Redskins traded for ex-Carolina Panthers quarterback Kyle Allen. This move is one that was based on familiarity and competition. Kyle Allen knows the offense Rivera and Turner will be running and manged to put up decent stats last season as a starter. The real question is, could the Redskins have traded for Allen to be more then a backup quarterback?

The Redskins could also opt to use their No. 2 pick on a quarterback like Tua Tagovailoa. Recent reports suggest Tua is back from injury and should be ready by the start of the season. While the Redskins did draft Dwayne Haskins just last season with the 15th overall pick, that was before Ron Rivera took over as head coach. If Rivera is not sold on Haskins, then Tua may be the player Rivera sees as the future franchise quarterback.
