Post-free agency full NFL two-round mock: Redskins trade down
By Ian Cummings
The Cardinals got surprisingly competent play from right tackle Justin Murray in 2019, as the former undrafted free agent started twelve games, providing some consistency at a position where such a quality is valued. That said, Murray is a free agent next offseason, and it might be smart for Arizona to negate the possibility of potential regression down the road, by drafting an elite right tackle prospect.
The Cardinals field a low-key solid roster after free agency, and they have some flexibility with how they go about spending the No. 8 pick. In situations of flexibility, investing the offensive line, perhaps every NFL team’s most important multi-member position group, is far from a bad idea. Justin Murray exceeded expectations in 2019, but there’s still some uncertainty surrounding his situation, and the addition of a tackle like Jedrick Wills, on a four-year rookie deal, can clear things up very quickly.
Wills is a bit stiff as an athlete, but it’s easy to ignore that on tape when watching his smooth fundamentals and tenacious punches. Wills brings more than enough functional athleticism to the right tackle position, and he’s one of the most purely powerful blockers at the point of attack in the entire 2020 NFL Draft. The Cardinals need to ensure they don’t take Kyler Murray’s protection for granted, and adding Wills is one way to do that.
