Post-free agency full NFL two-round mock: Redskins trade down
By Ian Cummings
This is one of my favorite potential fits in the 2020 NFL Draft, and now that the Patriots have traded safety Duron Harmon to the Detroit Lions, the potential addition of LSU safety Grant Delpit has even more merit.
The Patriots have an uncharacteristic amount of needs at this point in time, but the safety situation is one of the few where almost everyone has a shot to take the reigns. Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung still hold the torch for now, but both players will be 33 years old by the start of the 2020 season.
The Patriots need to get younger, while maintaining the team-first mentality and the versatility that’s so valuable in New England. That’s something they can accomplish by picking Delpit, who has an excellent athletic profile and the intelligence and leadership to carry on a culture. Some view his tackling as an issue, but he improved in 2019, and can continue to do so with more seasoning.
