Post-free agency full NFL two-round mock: Redskins trade down
By Ian Cummings
Every year, there are a few teams with fairly transparent top needs which you can pencil in almost month in advance of the NFL Draft. The Buccaneers are one of those teams this year; everyone knew they’d need a new offensive tackle with Demar Dotson’s departure, and now that Tom Brady is in town, that protection is more important than ever.
The Buccaneers have a lot of weapons on offense, and Brady, even at his age, is a good distributor for those weapons, provided he has the protection he needs to operate. One tackle spot is locked in for the time being with Donovan Smith, but the other needs an upgrade, and Andrew Thomas qualifies.
Thomas isn’t the blue-chip athlete that Wirfs and Becton are, and he’s not quite as powerful as Wills. But Thomas is an all-around solid tackle prospect who has more than enough of everything, and enough of a complete profile to be a reliable starter for years to come.
