. Wide Receiver. San Francisco 49ers. CeeDee Lamb. 13. player. 42

The 49ers having a first-round pick this early just feels wrong. It came at a steep price, as losing DeForest Buckner will be big for that team’s defensive line. But let’s be honest: They’re still stacked, and it only gets better from here.

The 49ers could go a couple of different directions at pick No. 13, and wide receiver isn’t the first option on the list. San Francisco is in a position where they don’t have any pressing needs, but positions like cornerback, defensive tackle, offensive guard, and receiver could see upgrades.

With that flexibility, I decided to pick the best player available at those positions at this juncture, deciding on Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb. The 49ers have a fairly deep receiving core, even after the loss of Emmanuel Sanders, with Deebo Samuel, Marquise Goodwin, Trent Taylor, and Dante Pettis all bolstering the ranks.

In spite of San Francisco’s depth, there’s a good chance Lamb could be the team’s top wide receiver from Day 1. Lamb is an electric receiver with a certain dynamic fearlessness at every level of his game. He has the body control and toughness at the catch point to support Jimmy Garappolo’s gunslinger habits, and he has the ability after the catch to be a versatile weapon for Kyle Shanahan.
