Pierre Desir was released by the Colts shortly after the official signing of Philip Rivers was announced. While Desir wasn’t as good in 2019 as he was the previous season, he still can be a solid starter on the outside and made some big plays for Indy.

Last season, Desir grabbed three interceptions for the Colts and had 11 pass defenses. Both numbers were career-highs.

However, Desir struggled a bit with tackling (he had 50 tackles and missed eight) and allowed a 100.2 passer rating and 14.7 yards per reception, both the highest marks during his time with the Colts. And essentially, what it means is that Desir was guilty of giving up some big plays even despite the big plays that he made.

It could’ve just been a down year for Desir. And he will only be 30 in September, so he should still have a few solid seasons left in the tank. Like most of the corners available, he’s more of a No. 2 option at this stage of his career, but that would still help the Redskins.

If Washington wants to get a potential starter on a fairly cheap deal, Desir could make sense. He may be willing to take a one-year deal to rebuild his value. Or, the Redskins could try to sign him for multiple seasons on an incentive-based contract. Either way, he’s one of the more intriguing options available on the open market.

UPDATE: Desir signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets, per Connor Hughes of The Athletic, so he is now off the market.
