Round 2

The Redskins lack a second-round selection after making a trade in the 2019 draft to move up and select talented defensive end Montez Sweat. It’s possible that a second-rounder could be added through a trade. There might be a multiplicity of scenarios where that could happen, so let’s examine a list of players who could be available in this round.

The focus in Round 2 could be a cornerback or wide receiver, but an offensive tackle is still possible. With Chase Young as the likely first choice, the front office will not take an edge rusher again so soon. Tight end is a need, but there are no prospects in this draft that warrant a second-round selection.

Wide receiver prospects in Round 2 include Justin Jefferson (LSU), Laviska Shenault (Colorado), Tee Higgins (Clemson), Brandon Aiyuk (Arizona State), and Denzel Mims (Baylor). Jefferson, Shenault, and Higgins could slip into the first round, while Aiyuk and Mims could fall to Round 3.

Cornerbacks to keep an eye on if a second-rounder materializes include Noah Igbinoghene (Auburn), Cameron Dantzler (Mississippi State), A.J. Terrell (Clemson), Jaylon Johnson (Utah), and Trevon Diggs (Alabama). Johnson and Terrell could slip to the Redskins in Round 3 with their early pick.

Offensive tackles to watch in this round include Lucas Niang (TCU), Josh Jones (Houston), and Prince Tega Wanogho (Auburn).
