Quinton Dunbar demanded a trade earlier in the offseason. Now, it looks like the Washington Redskins cornerback is on the trade market.

The Washington Redskins may have an entirely new trio of starting cornerbacks in 2020.

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, the Redskins are shopping Quinton Dunbar. The five-year member of the Redskins demanded a trade away from the squad earlier this offseason. He backtracked on that a bit at one point, but tensions seemed to be boiling over as he entered the final non-guaranteed year of a contract extension he signed back in 2018.

Dunbar came to the ‘Skins as an undrafted receiver out of Florida. After converting to the cornerback position, he slowly developed into a solid backup before emerging as a starter in 2018. Dunbar has played very well at corner each of the past two seasons, but he has dealt with some injury troubles. He missed 14 games the past two seasons with leg and hamstring injuries. But given the poor performance of the previous training staff, it’s possible those could’ve either been prevented or dealt with better.

Either way though, Dunbar was one of the better cornerbacks in the league last year. He started 11 games, made four interceptions, and had eight pass defenses. He was great in coverage and challenged opposing receivers very well. Greg Manusky‘s overly-complex scheme didn’t always make him look good, but still, his talent shone through.

If the Redskins do trade Dunbar, they’ll have a glaring hole at the outside corner position. Kendall Fuller can be an outside starter, but he’ll move into the slot corner spot in the nickel formation. Fabian Moreau has upside as a potential No. 2 cornerback, as evidenced by his move outside last year, but not only does the team need an insurance policy for him, they’ll need a true No. 1 corner for their defense. Or at the very least, someone who can hold up as an outside starter.

The Redskins will have some options. There are a few solid names still on the cornerback market including Bashaud Breeland, Logan Ryan, and the recently-released Pierre Desir. The team could sign one of them and look for a mid-round option to compete with Moreau.

If the ‘Skins move Dunbar, then outside corner will be one of their bigger weaknesses on defense. We’ll see what the team can get for Dunbar, if they ultimately move him, as they continue to reshape their roster.
