Five available free agents who could still be the Redskins biggest signing
By Ian Cummings
No. 5 – San Francisco 49ers WR Emmanuel Sanders
The Redskins pursued Amari Cooper because they need a wide receiver, and because they didn’t get him, they… well… still do. There’s no one on the market with the bilateral youth and dynamic ability that Cooper had, but there are players who can contribute in different ways.
One such player is Emmanuel Sanders, who recently finished the 2019 season as one of the members of the runner-up San Francisco 49ers. Sanders was traded midway through the season, but was still able to put up 869 yards and five touchdowns on 66 catches, reaffirming his status as one of the league’s best route runners.
Sanders turned 33 years old just days ago, so he’s up there in age, but he’d provide both a stable receiving option opposite Terry McLaurin, as well as a veteran mentor with the experience to teach younger pass catchers like McLaurin, Steven Sims, and Kelvin Harmon. Sanders offers a unique blend of immediate utility and future potential with his mentoring ability, and he’d be a very valuable add for Ron Rivera. The Cowboys have also expressed interest in Sanders, so taking him from them would be an added bonus.
