6. OT Martez Ivey, Tampa Bay Vipers

The Vipers had the best rushing offense in the XFL. De’Veon Smith, who had a cup of coffee with the Redskins in 2018, led the league in rushing yards. And Jacques Patrick wasn’t too far behind him.

Part of the reason the Vipers were strong in that area? Their offensive line. They had a quality blocking unit that allowed them to generate push at the point of attack. So, if the ‘Skins are going to poach a lineman from the XFL, it would make sense to take one from Tampa Bay.

The most intriguing guy on the line, in my opinion, is Martez Ivey. Ivey, a 6-foot-5, 306-pound tackle, went undrafted out of Florida in 2019 and landed with the New England Patriots. After spending time in New England, he was cut and decided to join the XFL.

Ivey manned the left tackle position for the Vipers and was fairly solid. He wasn’t perfect, but he helped to open some holes in the running game. Considering that he’s only 24, he may be worth adding as a tackle option with upside. And if he can’t play tackle at the NFL level, he could always try kicking inside to guard.

If Ivey isn’t a guy the Redskins want, they could explore adding someone like Kent Perkins from the St. Louis Battlehawks, a guard with previous NFL experience at the tackle position. But if they’re going to take on a lineman from the XFL, it would probably be best for them to find a young player with upside, as the older players only project to be backup options at the very best.
