The Washington Redskins could use some help at the tackle position. Here are some options for them to target on the free-agent market.

Currently, offensive tackle is one of the most unsettled positions on the Redskins offense. They are thin there and even their projected starters there come with concerns.

Namely, Trent Williams held out from the team last year and didn’t play a down. He’s exploring potential trades ahead of free agency, but there’s no guarantee that the ‘Skins will move him if they don’t get proper compensation for him. If that’s the case, he may not want to play for another season, and that would open a big hole at left tackle.

On the right side, Morgan Moses has been a solid right tackle, but he’s coming off a down year and it appears that playing through nagging injuries has taken a toll on him. He could be a bounce-back candidate, but the team may want insurance just in case he can’t find success.

Speaking of insurance, they have none for either Williams or Moses. Geron Christian is currently penciled in as the swing tackle only by virtue of him being a former third-round pick in 2018. Through two professional seasons, he has not looked like anything more than a fourth tackle.

Last year’s starting left tackle, Donald Penn, is set to be a 37-year-old free agent. He could return to the team, as he was decent last year. But at any point, his performance could take a nose dive, so that could be a risk.

Luckily for the Redskins, the 2020 NFL Draft class is loaded at the tackle position. So, they may find a quality candidate to take over one of the positions that way. That said, if they want to pick Chase Young No. 2 overall, they’ll need to wait until Round 3 to pick a tackle, unless they can swing a deal for a second round pick. So, it may behoove them to add a veteran tackle as well.

The 2020 free-agent tackle class is relatively solid even though top candidate Anthony Castonzo recently re-signed with the Colts. Here’s a look at five players the ‘Skins could consider adding to help fix their tackle woes.
