No. 3 – Carolina Panthers S Tre Boston

At this point, it’s a yearly exercise to connect the Redskins to famed free agent Tre Boston. Even back in the offseason of 2018, fans were calling for the Redskins to sign Boston. Boston leaps around almost on an annual basis, never one of the first safeties to come off the board, and this year, he could be had for a similar value.

Boston is of course older now, set to turn 28 years old in June, but what he would bring in the immediate window is a nice compliment to Landon Collins at safety, as well as familiarity for new Redskins head coach Ron Rivera.

Ball production is one of the staples of Boston’s game, and in 2019, he stayed true to that calling card, logging three interceptions and 11 pass deflections in 16 regular season games. Boston did a nice job in coverage overall, allowing 22 completions for 329 yards and two touchdowns on 36 targets, good for a passer rating of 74.9.

Boston isn’t a world beater at safety, and there’s still a remote chance the Redskins could decide to give Montae Nicholson a fresh start in 2020. But Rivera should be good for at least one former Panthers signing in free agency, and betting on it being Boston is a smart gamble.
