Top five tight ends for Redskins to target in 2020 free agency
The Washington Redskins could use an infusion of talent at the tight end position. Here are some potential targets for them in free agency.
There was a time not too long ago that the Redskins had one of the most talented tight end groups in the NFL. Jordan Reed was an ascending talent and the depth that the team had included guys like Niles Paul, Vernon Davis, and Logan Paulsen, among others.
But now, things have changed.
Davis has retired from the NFL. And Reed has been cut by the Redskins and lingers on the free agent market. The duo had been the top options for the team for the past few seasons, when healthy, but now, both are gone.
So, where does that leave the squad at the position? They have Jeremy Sprinkle, Hale Hentges, and Caleb Wilson currently on the roster. Sprinkle is a good blocker but doesn’t catch well while Hentges and Wilson are developmental projects. Perhaps the team should’ve held onto solid tight end/H-back JP Holtz, but he was claimed off waivers by the Chicago Bears after Week 1 in 2019.
Moving forward, the Redskins are going to have to add some talent at tight end. And luckily enough for them, there are some solid candidates available on the free agent market. Here’s a look at five players the team could pursue at the position in order to make a proper upgrade.
