The Washington Redskins could use some help at the linebacker position. Here are some of their top options to look at in 2020 free agency.

When looking at the Redskins defense, one of their biggest positions of need comes at linebacker. They have some intriguing talent there — Cole Holcomb and Shaun Dion Hamilton stand out among their young players — but moving to a 4-3, they need both depth and talent to help round out the position group.

One of the biggest reasons the Redskins could need to add a top-tier talent at this position is related to the health of Reuben Foster. Foster suffered a devastating knee injury just a few plays into OTAs last year and there are questions about whether or not he will be able to play to start the 2020 season. He would likely be the team’s starter at middle linebacker were he healthy.

Beyond Foster, there are also questions about how Ryan Anderson will fit into the team’s new 4-3 defense. He figures to play the SAM linebacker spot but if he has troubles and becomes a true positional tweener, that could weaken the team’s linebacker depth.

Luckily for the Redskins, there’s a solid group of free agent linebackers available this offseason. The team should be interested in signing at least one to play a key role in their defense. Here’s a look at their top five options with free agency just a few days away.

Honorable Mention: Chargers LB Thomas Davis (for more on why he could fit the team, click here).
