Dan Snyder ‘infatuated with’ Chase Young, per the latest rumors
According to the latest rumors, Dan Snyder is “infatuated with” Chase Young and wants the Washington Redskins to take him.
The rumors connecting Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to the Redskins always felt like a smokescreen. Or simple due diligence from a team picking second overall.
But now, it is becoming increasingly clear that Tagovailoa isn’t really in consideration with that selection.
According to Kalyn Kahler of Sports Illustrated, a source told her that Snyder wouldn’t want the team to take Tagovailoa and that he loves Chase Young.

"“I don’t think [Washington owner] Dan [Snyder] would want that,” says a source familiar with the organization’s thinking. “He wants to give Haskins the opportunity and I think Dan is infatuated with [Ohio State defensive end] Chase Young.”"
This is hardly a surprise as the Redskins have been linked to Young for a majority of the pre-draft process. And the team did just invest a first-round pick in Dwayne Haskins, so they probably don’t want to give up on him after one season.
Sure, the Arizona Cardinals did that with Josh Rosen, but Haskins at least showed growth and potential at the end of his first year as a starter. And a new coaching staff could help him unlock the ability that made him the No. 15 overall selection in last year’s draft class.
There is admittedly some merit to at least considering Tagovailoa for the pick considering his top-level talent. And had he not gotten injured, he would’ve challenged Joe Burrow for the No. 1 overall pick. But the Redskins really shouldn’t jettison Haskins after one season for a few main reasons.
First, they simply won’t get enough value in return for him based on his previous year’s performance. Second, he could improve in his second year if he grows under the new offensive staff. Third, the ‘Skins would have to pass on a guy like Young to draft Tua, and it’s hard to argue for passing on elite talent, even if it’s not necessarily at a position of need.
Right now, it seems like the Redskins are in a good place as they weigh their options for the No. 2 pick. Young seems like the favorite of Snyder, Ron Rivera, and Kyle Smith, so it’s good that they are all on the same page. We’ll see what ends up happening come draft day, but Young certainly looks like the prohibitive favorite at this point in time.
