Best potential Trent Williams trade partners for Redskins to look into
Denver Broncos
Since being a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Garett Bolles has largely been a disappointment for the Broncos. He has struggled with holding penalties and false starts and really hasn’t been great at the tackle position.
The Broncos are getting prepared to build around last year’s second-round pick, Drew Lock, at quarterback. And giving him strong protection should be a priority this offseason. With that said, they’re set to see left guard Ronald Leary go in free agency (they’re declining the option on his contract) and center Connor McGovern is a free agent as well. They could try to retain McGovern, but even if they do, they’ll need a starter at tackle.
Williams could fit well in that role. He could take over for Bolles and make the penalty issues a thing of the past at that position. And Bolles could get a chance to kick inside to guard to see if he’s better off there. That would at least give him a chance to find success without having to battle players on the outside. Perhaps playing in less space will help him to improve as time goes on.
If the Broncos are believers in that thought process and don’t think they’ll land any of the Big 4 offensive tackle prospects, maybe they’d consider trading for Williams. They have a mid-second-round pick and some decent tight end depth on their roster. Perhaps if the Redskins like a player enough, they could ask for one with the second-rounder to get Williams. The other option would be to just ask for picks, which seems more likely.
