With the firing of Bruce Allen and hiring of Ron Rivera, the Redskins begin a new era in their franchises’ storied history in 2020. Could new uniforms help kick off the new era with a bang?

With the Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers all announcing that they will be wearing new uniforms in 2020, I thought this could be an excellent opportunity to discuss whether the Redskins need new uniforms as well.

A few things to keep in mind as you’re reading this article.

With a plethora of different professional leagues throughout the world, teams change jerseys all the time, so this is a conversation that truthfully can be had on a near yearly basis with almost any team in any league that hasn’t changed uniforms recently. Washington is currently one of them.

There is no right or wrong answer about whether the Redskins (or any team for that matter) need to change uniforms. Everyone has a different opinion. It’s entirely subjective, and that’s what makes for a great discussion. Someone is going to have an opinion that differs from yours. Please don’t bash them for it. We’re Redskins fans. We hail together.

I just hit 31 in October (old man status), so I’ve had a really bad case of 90s uniform nostalgia going on recently.

Now that those are out of the way, on to the uniforms.

Growing up as a 90s kid, we had it all. Nickelodeon cartoons. The original Playstation and Nintendo 64. Blockbusters. And most of all, we were in the peak era for uniforms. From the Toronto Raptors and Vancouver Grizzlies to the Hartford Whalers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the Montreal Expos, there were some great uniforms in that era.

Every era, and team, are defined by uniforms. The 90s was no different. Since that time though, many of the NFL teams have undergone a modernization of their uniforms. One of the teams that still hasn’t changed their uniforms is the Redskins.

Is it time the ‘Skins modernized their uniforms? We’ll take a quick look at their recent uniform changes (it won’t take long) and discuss if it is time for a change. With Bruce Allen gone and a new head coach in Ron Rivera, now could be the perfect time to usher in a new era.
