Former Redskins tight end Jordan Reed is reportedly drawing interest from the Rams on the free-agent market.

The Washington Redskins released tight end Jordan Reed this offseason. Once one of the better tight ends in the NFL, Reed had trouble staying on the field for the Redskins after signing a five-year, $45 million contract. After he missed the entire 2019 season with a concussion, the team decided to release him to free up some cap space.

But Reed wants to continue playing in the NFL. And it looks like he’ll have at least one suitor in 2020 free agency.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Los Angeles Rams have spoken to Jordan Reed about a potential signing.

It makes sense that the Rams would be interested in Reed. Sean McVay coached him during his time in Washington and he could be looking to add another weapon to the Rams offense on the cheap. Reed would represent a potential-packed option for the Rams and if healthy, he would be a nice complement to Tyler Higbee.

Of course, it’s worth noting that the Rams are dealing with some salary cap issues this offseason. They gave massive contracts to Jared Goff and Todd Gurley in recent years and they still need to agree to an extension with Jalen Ramsey and make decisions on key free-agents Andrew Whitworth, Dante Fowler, Greg Zuerlein, Michael Brockers, and Cory Littleton. That may make it hard for them to target Reed.

Still, Reed shouldn’t be expensive. His lack of reliability will likely make him sign a one-year, “prove it” deal and it’s possible that he could take a discount to be reunited with McVay. So, maybe he will land with the Rams.

Either way, the Redskins aren’t likely to miss Reed too much. While his talent and upside would be welcome in their barren tight end room, it simply was time for the team to move on. They’ll target some other tight ends in free agency and the draft, and they are rumored to be interested in Atlanta Falcons tight end Austin Hooper.

It will be interesting to see where Reed ends up. And there’s no doubt that wherever that may be, Redskins fans will be pulling for him to find success.
