Redskins: The case for and against signing Amari Cooper
Should the Redskins sign Amari Cooper?
While the price to pay will be steep, I think the Redskins should kick the tires. And if Cooper is available, they should sign him.
The signing of Cooper would elevate the Washington Redskins receiving core into elite status.
Having two young wide receivers in Terry McLaurin and Cooper on the field at the same time would put defenses in a position where single high man to man coverage would be BBQ chicken for Dwayne Haskins and offensive coordinator, Scott Turner.
The passing offense of the Redskins would flow more fluidly, with the progression and development of Haskins becoming easier and at a much quicker pace. The dynamic that Cooper brings to the Redskins offense would be evident from the first session of training camp. He will elevate this offense like the game-changer he his, and similarly to how he did the Dallas Cowboys offense back in 2018.
The Redskins need elite talent and elite skill position players. Washington needs game-changers. By signing Cooper, they are signing not only one of the best receivers in the game today, but one of the few game-changers to hit the open market in years.
There’s a slim chance that Cooper hits the free-agent market come mid-March of 2020, but with new reports out that the Redskins would be interested in bringing Cooper in, you can’t help but feel optimistic Riverboat Ron will do anything it takes to bring elite talent to D.C.
Who knows? Burgundy and Gold might look good on the former Cowboy. *wink wink*
