player. 32. . Defensive Tackle. Arizona Cardinals. Derrick Brown. 8

This has to be where Derrick Brown’s slide ends. If the Redskins stay put at No. 2 and take Young, it’s possible that Brown could be the No. 3 pick if the Lions don’t move down. That’s how talented he is.

But in this mock, Brown falls a bit further out of circumstance. He simply lost out on being selected due to lack of positional need and the Panthers going in another direction at No. 7.

Brown has been one of the most dominant defensive linemen in the SEC over the course of the past two seasons. He’s a big-bodied force at the point of attack and over the course of the past three years, he has generated 31.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks. Those numbers may not jump off the page, but it’s important to note that he’s an interior defensive lineman. So, those numbers are actually really good.

Brown gets good penetration and is a very effective run stopper. He could stand to add some more pass rushing moves to his arsenal, but at 6-foot-5, 318 pounds, he has excellent size, strength, and has enough athletic ability to make plays in the backfield.

The Cardinals really need some help on their defensive line. Zach Allen was a solid pickup in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, but he only played in four games as a rookie before suffering a neck injury. Aside from him and 31-year-old nose tackle Corey Peters, the team doesn’t have much. Brown would be an instant upgrade and would afford Allen more opportunities to face single teams, as opponents will be focused far more on Brown and Chandler Jones.

Unless the Cardinals really want to take a right tackle here, Jedrick Wills and Andrew Thomas would fit the bill, Brown seems like the no-brainer for the squad.
