2020 NFL Mock Draft: Pre-Combine mock with Redskins trading down
Rounding out the mock draft is the NFL champion Kansas City Chiefs, and they do something that Andy Reid loves to do. They address the trenches.
Patrick Mahomes is a Russell Wilson-type quarterback in that he doesn’t necessarily need an elite offensive line in front of him to find success. That’s because Mahomes is mobile. That said, the team should still look to upgrade the interior of the line, as they had some issues there last year when Ryan Hunter had to start and Stefen Wisniewski is set to be a free agent.
Shane Lemieux is one of the better guards in this draft class and he fits the range here. Playing at Oregon, Lemieux has experience blocking for Justin Herbert and was a four-year starter. He was steady, has good size at 6-foot-4, 317 pounds, and has really good technique that should make him a plug-and-play starter.
For the Chiefs, Lemieux could come in and compete right away at left guard and may ultimately win the job. That could push Wisniewski into a backup role if the Chiefs re-sign him. Or, they could give that role to Andrew Wylie. Either way, Lemieux would likely be an upgrade and help the Chiefs immensely.
That’ll wrap up this mock draft, and I expect that this will change a lot after the NFL Combine. But for the time being, this is just one way that things could shake out if the Redskins do elect to trade down.
