Five players for the Redskins to watch closely at 2020 Senior Bowl
Some may be surprised to see a receiver in the No. 1 spot here. After all, the Redskins have some young talent at the position including Terry McLaurin, Steven Sims, and Kelvin Harmon. Why would they go after a guy like Denzel Mims?
It’s pretty simple. Mims is talented, underrated, and could be there when the Redskins are on the clock in the third round. And if he is, the team could consider selecting him to provide Harmon some competition and add another big receiving weapon to their offense.
Mims has stood out during the Senior Bowl practices by winning some key one-one-ones and showing off his nice route-running ability. To boot, Mims has really good size at 6-foot-3 and has enough athletic ability to go with it to make plays downfield. In short, he’s almost the complete package and could emerge quickly as a starter in the NFL.
At Baylor, Mims totaled 66 receptions for 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns in his final season. He was the team’s best pass catcher and showed off all the skills that have made him succeed at the Senior Bowl. When you watch his tape, he simply flashes. And it’s fun to watch him make downfield plays.
This receiver class is deep and it’s possible that a gem like Mims could be overlooked. If he flashes potential at the Senior Bowl, the Redskins will surely take notice. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll be able to land another impactful rookie receiver in the middle rounds of the draft after doing so in 2019.
