Standouts from the East-West Shrine Game that Redskins could target
College All-Star games usually feature some solid play at running back. And this game was no different. Guys like Benny LeMay, James Robinson, and Reggie Corbin all had their moments in this one but one guy stood out above all else.
That was Rico Dowdle.
The South Carolina Gamecock simply looked like the most explosive and shifty player out on the field. He found ways to break off big runs and showed a knack for finding space and making the most of each of his runs.
Dowdle’s best run came on a 30-yard scamper that saw him quickly identify the hole and attack it while getting outside. He got into the second level and turned on the jets and was able to get to the sideline and give the East squad a big gain.
Overall, Dowdle finished the day with five carries for 50 yards. He could provide the Redskins with some depth at the running back position late in the draft, which is something that the team could need with Chris Thompson hitting free agency. Perhaps they’ll look at a guy like Dowdle on Day 3.
