Three Panthers free agents the Redskins could target after hiring Ron Rivera
Ron Rivera is the new coach of the Washington Redskins. Could he try to reinforce the roster with some free agents from his former team, the Carolina Panthers?
The Washington Redskins made the first coaching hire of the 2020 offseason when they named Ron Rivera as their newest coach. Rivera replaces Jay Gruden (and interim head coach Bill Callahan) after a nine-year run with the Carolina Panthers. In nine years with the squad, he logged a 76-63-1 record and had four playoff appearances, including a run to Super Bowl 50.
Rivera is generally considered to be a good head coach but an even better person. The Panthers players have been raving about him since his departure, and it’s worth noting that the team without Rivera played with little motivation in four embarrassing losses. So, it’s safe to say that Rivera connected with his players and knew how to motivate them.
Because of Rivera’s reputation as a genuinely good guy and the fact that players love playing for him, it’s possible that he could land some solid guys in free agency. And if a few former Panthers want out of Carolina, it’s possible that Rivera could convince them to join the Redskins.
With that said, here’s a look at three Panthers players the Redskins could target this offseason as they look to fill some holes in free agency.
