Assessing the Redskins coaching options: Former Panthers HC Ron Rivera
Right now, it seems that Ron Rivera is the favorite to become the Washington Redskins next head coach. Here’s everything you need to know about Rivera.
It seems that the Redskins are going to quickly move to hire a new head coach with the 2019 NFL season coming to a close. The Redskins are closing the door on a very disappointing 3-13 campaign that saw them finish with the second-worst record in football.
Of course, the Redskins were always expected to have a tough season. But the way in which they repeatedly lost was discouraging. Early in the season, they were unable to show much of anything on offense. And Greg Manusky’s defense fell far short of expectations. It’s a forgone conclusion that he won’t be back in 2020.
But now, the Redskins are turning the page. That means that they will soon hire a new head coach and on Sunday, a clubhouse favorite emerged.
According to multiple reports, the Redskins are hosting former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera on a visit on Monday. And if all goes well, NBC Sports Washington’s Julie Donaldson is reporting that Rivera will be the team’s next head coach.
On the surface, this would be a great fit. If Rivera likes the team’s young players and is buying into the post-Bruce Allen Redskins, that could quickly turn out to be a positive for the ‘Skins. Rivera would bring respectability to their coaching staff and he would bring a proven, successful coach into their organization as well.
With that said, let’s take a deep dive into Rivera’s resume and exactly how he would be able to fit in with the Redskins.
