The Washington Redskins could use some energy from their new head coach. Could 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh provide that for them?

During the Jay Gruden era, the Washington Redskins always seemed to lack urgency, energy, and awareness in key situations. Any time they had a chance to prove themselves for their head coach, they almost always let him down.

That’s part of the reason that the team decided to part ways with Gruden very early into the 2019 campaign. It’s a move they should have made the prior offseason, but they stuck with the lame-duck to no avail.

Now, the team is preparing to hire another head coach. They’ve given Bill Callahan every opportunity to prove himself as the interim, but with the team logging a 3-7 record in his 10 games as head coach, it would be a surprise to see him get the nod.

Thus, the Redskins will have to find a new head coaching option. And Robert Saleh could qualify. Saleh, currently serving as the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator, could be an intriguing option for the team given what he brings to the field. Defensive smarts, energy, and a knack for generating pressure with the right personnel.

With that said, here’s a look at Saleh’s resume and why he could garner consideration as the next Redskins coach.
