The Redskins are shuffling their roster a bit ahead of the conclusion of the 2019 season.

With three weeks left in the 2019 regular season, the Washington Redskins are 3-10, and on the cusp of entering a defining stretch for the franchise. How Dan Snyder responds to another season of organizational dysfunction will be under the spotlight in 2020, but for now, there are still three games of action left to command local attention.

At this time of the season, injuries often shape the edges of the rosters across the league, and already, the Redskins have been making changes due to those injuries. In the past week, Washington has placed starters such as Derrius Guice and Ryan Kerrigan on injured reserve, and earlier today, the same fate was met by wide receiver Paul Richardson.

According to the team’s official Twitter account, the Redskins have placed Richardson on injured reserve. Richardson hadn’t played since Week 12, and even though he didn’t miss a game from Week 1 to Week 9, he struggled to attain consistency, and was frequently hampered by injuries. With his season over, Richardson logged 28 receptions for 245 yards and two touchdowns.

Since signing a five-year, $40 million deal with the Redskins before the 2018 season, Richardson has underwhelmed. He’s played in 17 of a total 32 games, and he’s amassed 48 catches for 507 yards and four touchdowns. Richardson came to Washington with the speed lacking after DeSean Jackson’s departure, but he hasn’t come close to filling the deep threat role for the Redskins offense. This year, when he was healthy, he was phase out of the offense by younger receivers, and heading into the future, his $8 million cap figure is looking less and less valuable.

In an article accompanying the initial report, Washington was revealed to have also promoted offensive tackle Timon Parris to the active roster, in place of the injured Richardson. Parris played well for the Redskins in preseason, and he has the traits to be a potential piece of the future for Washington on the offensive line. Perhaps, the Redskins are looking to learn more about his potential, as their season winds to a close.
