Stud No. 2 – The Redskins pass rush

I’d focus on one or two guys, but there are just too many names to bring up for this slide, so instead, we’ll just go through the list below. Here are the players who got involved in the Redskins suffocating pass rush on Sunday:

  • Matt Ioannidis: 2.0 sacks
  • Chris Odom: 2.0 sacks, game-winning strip sack
  • Montez Sweat: 1.5 sacks
  • Nate Orchard: 1.0 sack
  • Jonathan Allen: 0.5 sacks

Who would have thought that the one week the Redskins were missing Ryan Kerrigan, they’d accumulate seven total team sacks? Kyle Allen helped them out, of course; his pocket presence was weak all day, and he often hurt himself by abandoning his reads, wandering into vulnerable situations, and being indecisive with the football.

That said, the Redskins pass rush deserves credit for getting under Allen’s skin and ultimately derailing the Panthers’ offensive unit, and they did it with some new names. The Redskins promoted Chris Odom to the active roster on November 30, and Nate Orchard, the 2019 preseason sack leader, was signed on November 27. Those two stepped up when Montez Sweat left the game and the Redskins needed a pass rush presence, and they caused the play that sealed the game.
