Stud: KR Steven Sims Jr.

The Redskins weren’t able to score a touchdown on the offensive side of the ball. They weren’t able to score a TD on defense either.

Their one touchdown on Sunday came from special teams. And more specifically, it belonged to Steven Sims Jr.

The undrafted rookie out of Kansas has shown explosive playmaking ability at times this season. Against the New England Patriots, he had a 62-yard touchdown on offense. And on Sunday, he made another explosive play.

The Lions had just kicked a field goal to cut the Redskins’ lead to 6-3 when Sims received the ball. He tried to pick it up at the 9-yard line but originally muffed it. After picking it up again, he was able to run forward and broke through a tackle with surprising strength. He then hit a crease, got into space, and was gone.

Sims has proven that he has the playmaking ability needed to be a weapon. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if the ‘Skins can get him more involved in all facets of the game. One easy way to do that? Give him the punt returner role since he’s so good with the ball in his hands.
