2. Quinton Dunbar is the Redskins’ best defensive player

The Washington Redskins defense hasn’t been very good this year. Some thought they would have a chance to be a solid unit that could sneak into the top-10 defensive rankings this season. Largely, they have disappointed.

But don’t blame Quinton Dunbar for that. The veteran Redskins corner has stepped up this season and has been one of the best corners in football this season. And his excellent play continued on Sunday.

Dunbar was able to help the Redskins limit Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones to a combined 105 yards on 10 catches during the game. Considering that they are one of the best receiver duos in the NFL, that’s pretty impressive.

Dunbar was able to lock down the duo anytime he matched up against them. And more importantly, Dunbar perfectly read a Jeff Driskel pass late in the game and intercepted him. He read the eyes of the Lions’ quarterback, undercut the route, and truly looked like he should have been the receiver on the play.

That play by Dunbar set up the Redskins’ game-winning drive.

It’s pretty clear that Dunbar is the best player on the Redskins defense. He has been consistently great and has been the only corner on the team that has lived up to — or exceeded — expectations. If he keeps playing like this, he should get some Pro Bowl and All-Pro consideration.
