Redskins youth shines through in Week 11 studs and duds

Dud No. 2 – The Redskins secondary
Coverage breakdowns, play-by-play separation, finger pointing; it was all there for the Redskins secondary in the team’s 34-17 loss against the New York Jets. Sam Darnold threw four interceptions against the Patriots a few weeks ago, and this week, against the Redskins, he threw four touchdowns, picking on the team’s secondary all game long.
Some players were targeted more than others. Josh Norman was at a substantial disadvantage against Robby Anderson’s speed, and it showed. Landon Collins’ warts in coverage were apparent on more than one big gain. And Fabian Moreau was seen on the tail end of one touchdown pass. Some players deserve more blame than others, but that doesn’t give the whole unit a pass.
The Redskins secondary has to be better, for the amount of talent contained within it. Yes, Josh Norman is aging, and he’s far past his peak at this point, but Quinton Dunbar has been playing well this year. Fabian Moreau has the athletic traits to succeed, as does Montae Nicholson. Collins was the highest-paid safety in the NFL for a time this offseason.
Washington isn’t getting as much as they can out of this secondary, and in the offseason, they need to diagnose why. Because if they simply keep the revolving door of players operational, they’re bound to run into the same issues.
