1. Redskins must utilize the play-action and take some shots downfield

One thing the ‘Skins must do a better job of doing this week is taking some shots after establishing the run. Last game, Adrian Peterson was having his way against the talented Bills’ defense. Despite this success running the ball, they did not attempt to work in any play-action passes and take a shot downfield. This was to play it safe with Haskins and minimize the chances he would turn it over.

Buffalo made adjustments to stop the run in the second half and completely shut down the Redskins offense by stacking the box. That can’t happen again this week. Expect the Redskins to open up more of the playbook for Haskins. Look for Kevin O’Connell to dial up a few shots if Washington can get Peterson and Guice going and suck the defense up.

In the preseason, Haskins showed he has the arm strength to push the ball downfield. He also has a natural chemistry with Terry McLaurin from their time together at Ohio State, so he should look for him downfield. If Washington can connect on some deep shots, it will go a long way against a tough Jets’ defense.
