3. Ryan Kerrigan logs 2-plus sacks

Ryan Kerrigan is on pace to have the worst season of his NFL career. That’s not to say that he has been bad this year. He just hasn’t been nearly as good of a pass rusher as usual.

So far during his NFL career, Kerrigan has logged at least 7.5 sacks in every season that he has played. And in each of the past five seasons, he has posted at least 9.5 sacks.

This year, Kerrigan is only on pace to notch about four sacks. In the team’s first nine games, he had just two sacks. He hasn’t been as impactful, and part of that is due to the fact that he is likely regressing just a bit with age (30), but a larger portion of the blame should be placed on Greg Manusky and the defense for not deploying him as a pass-rushing threat enough and asking him to play in coverage too frequently.

That said, perhaps Kerrigan can snap out of his funk after the bye week. He should be revved up and ready to go, and maybe the team will gameplan to get him more involved. That would be smart given that the Jets have a weak offensive line.

Kerrigan will likely get a chance to match up one-on-one with right tackle Chuma Edoga, a third-round rookie who is raw but has upside. In this matchup, Kerrigan’s experience, strength, and athletic ability should give him a chance to win early and often. And that should give him a chance to get some pressure on Sam Darnold.

Overall, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Kerrigan double his sack total in this contest. If he can get two or more sacks against the Jets, that would be excellent news for the team. Expect him to be able to do just that.
