Redskins reportedly planning on attending Colin Kaepernick’s workout
The Washington Redskins will be attending Colin Kaepernick‘s workout on Saturday afternoon.
It looks like the Washington Redskins will be in attendance for Colin Kaepernick’s Saturday workout after all.
Originally, there were conflicting reports about whether or not the Redskins would be attending Kaepernick’s workout. Interim head coach Bill Callahan said that he didn’t expect the team would attend at his Wednesday press conference, citing the fact that the team already had three quarterbacks on the roster.
However, the Redskins shortly confirmed afterward, per multiple sources, that they will, indeed, be attending Kaepernick’s workout on Saturday. And this is a smart move for the franchise.

While the ‘Skins are highly unlikely to sign Kaepernick right now — as Callahan mentioned, they do have three quarterbacks on the roster — both Case Keenum and Colt McCoy are set to be free agents after the season. So, they could soon be in the market for a backup quarterback. And that’s a role that Kaepernick could at least have a shot to fill pending how he looks after spending three years out of the game.
Also, it’s worth noting that this event is just a workout. Teams work out players for their rosters and emergency lists all of the time. So at the very least, the Redskins can learn whether or not Kaepernick can still play at the NFL level. If Kaepernick impresses, they can potentially pursue him. If not, they can just walk away from the workout. Either way, it won’t hurt them to have a representative there just to keep an eye on things.
Kaepernick has been out of the league for a long time, but it’s important to remember that he’s still young enough (32) to find success at quarterback and he did once lead the 49ers to a Super Bowl. Much has been debated about his skill set in the past three years, but at least this workout will give teams a chance to see what he’s still capable of doing on the field.
Doing due diligence is never a bad thing at the NFL level. And that’s exactly what the ‘Skins are doing by checking out Kaepernick’s workout. We’ll soon see what he can do and if he impresses any NFL teams as he looks to return to the league.
